A Crafty Evening

I decided to spend my last Blair-less evening by vegging out in front of the TV. Not my best idea or finest moment, but in the stillness that was thoughtlessness, I had a great idea. While I was in Tennessee, I bought a bird cage at a craft store. I had played around with some ideas for it, including making some fabric birds. Last night, I decided to make and hang paper birds in it instead. I took several sets of two pieces of 5.5X3.5 paper and glued them together and let them sit for about ten minutes. Then I traced a bird pattern from The Purl Bee and cut them out. I got one big bird out of each rectangle and two small ones out of a rectangle. I used a yarn needle to put a hole in the tops of them and just used white sewing machine thread to hang them from the cage. I'm really pleased with how cute it turned out. It looks really neat when the air blows over it, because the birds look like they're flitting around. I'm knitting a nest to go in the bottom.

A Beautiful Labor Day (and "first" day of autumn)

We had an absolutely beautiful day here today. Perfect temps and sunny skies. We've had the door open letting in the breeze. I went around and took some pictures today. Here are a few.

You can head over to Flickr to see the rest. I also did a little bit of Fall decorating. There will be more to come...I also did a small amount of sewing to quench the crave.

Ode to a Point Turner

Until recently, I was using a knitting needle to poke all of those pesky little points and corners into neatness. That is, until yesterday. Yesterday while I was rummaging around in my rather sizable stash of sewing notions and odds and ends I found this.

What is this pointy, plastic contraption, you say? It is a point turner. A glorious point turner, my friend. Unlike a knitting needle that pokes holes into the corners of a beautiful, completed project, this little slice of heaven merely nudges that shy piece of rounded fabric into place.

Now, this is an experienced point turner. I believe it was my Mimi's, but even if it is only in the hands of a second generation user it has still been well-used...and loved. And since my happy discovery yesterday of this magnificent formation of plastic, it shall continue to be well-used, yes, even well-loved.

On a completely different note, I spent the entire day making items to post in my shop. If you want to purchase something you will need to set up an Etsy account which is east and quick. Go check it out!

Summertime Fun

I've been really busy the past two days. I went and filled out another job application and spent my time at home crafting.

I'm made new chewy-s for the dogs out of an old pair of jeans.

I also made the pillow you see Petey laying on. He loves it.

I started working on a jacket project that I'm really excited about. Since I dug out all of my fabric to organize a few weeks ago, I decided to start sewing again. I've done quite a bit lately.

I also spent last night making this bag. I love the pattern, and this fabric works really well with it. The top portion is a heavy upholstery linen and the bottom is an old piece of corduroy. I love the way the colors look together. I drew the bird on a piece of tracing paper and embroidered it on the linen. I really love this bag. I can't wait to put it into use!!

I got out this morning and took some photos around the house. In the midst of taking photos I discovered that we have fire ants.

More Creating

It's been gloomy and thunderous here today. No rain, just the threat. Due to the lack of sunshine and the high heat, I spent the day inside crafting.

A few days ago, I made a diaper bag for a friend. Today I used the leftover fabric to make two smaller bags for her two older daughters.

Nothing Much New

Things here are basically the same. I'm still looking for a job. Petey is still sniffling and sneezing. Turns out the hat I made looks cute in corduroy with a smaller brim.
