Canoe Conundrum

We went canoing today with Matt, Karen, and Karen's friend, Emily. We were supposed to go to Flatwoods, where there is a canoe rental place. Matt and Karen rode with us and we were supposed to meet Emily there. Well, we got to Flatwoods, and drove around, realizing that we had no clue where the rental place was. We also didn't see any water. Karen called her mom. Turns out, there are two Flatwoods in Tennessee...and of course, we were at the wrong one! We were about 45 minutes east of where we were supposed to be. So we got back on the road and found our way to the right place. Matt, Karen, and Emily all got kayaks, which I like better, and Blair and I got a canoe so we could tote the cooler that had lunch in it. We had so much fun! Karen came home with several tadpoles, a frog, and a couple of little fish in a water bottle. I got a great tan (again). Blair turned red as usual, and Matt got no sun what-so-ever. We only did the four mile paddle since we got there too late to do the ten. I'm a little sore, but really, I wish we'd been able to do the full ten mile.

thank everything good

today was a much better day for us. the boys were much calmer, excepting a very early wake-up call. Murray and I made a trip to MiMom's and Pop's for a bit of Petey-free time. now that we're back home, both of them are conked out on the floor. yipee!! My air conditioner, on the other hand, hates me. it is finally cooler in here. it was 80 degrees for several hours. very unbearable, hence the trip to mama's. my landlord's are going to be so sick of me...

end it now, please!

I have just possibly had the second WORST evening of my life. My air conditioner is out due to the fact that my toe went through the kitchen floor this morning (actually, yesterday, now). there was something wrong with the pipes, so my landlord told me not to use them. my parents said that i could stay at their house with the dogs. big mistake. First, Petey is a really big bully, and i think Murray had a nervous breakdown tonight. I was REALLY worried about him. But here's the part that still has me really irked. Murray and my mother, MiMom, are best buds. As soon as it was bed time (10:30) and she went in her room, he started going nuts. I had put Petey in the laundry room to keep them separated. I absolutely could not get Murray to be quiet. So I had to take him outside. To get outside, you must exit through the laundry room. well, that got Petey all riled up, and if you've ever heard a Beagle bark howl, you know that's bad. I didn't know what to do at this point. So, I put the dogs in the car and decided to spend the night out there with them. They were doing really well, and I thought, maybe if I put Petey in the bedroom with Murray and me, Murray would calm down. Another big mistake. Did not work at all!! So, by this time, it's 12:30 and I'm at me wits end. I take the dogs back outside to the car. well, they seemed to be doing ok...Murray actually curled up and started to go to sleep...until he heard a dog barking. Murray got vicious. Petey went crazy. By this time it's 1:30 and I've had it up to the proverbial "here." I go back inside my parents house, grab all my stuff, leave them a note, and go home. And turn on the air. My landlords had plenty of time to replace that pipe before 5 and they just didn't do it. So now, it's their problem. I just can't bring myself to care. any pity i had before for Murray and his nervous breakdown had disappeared. Until I come back into the living room and he's all curled up asleep. He's just too stinkin' cute to be mad at!

Petey and Murray

Are now getting along very well. They really are very cute together. This is going to be an interesting week, though, because Blair is out of town, and it's just me and the boys. I guess I'll have to take separate walks with them both. Murray is too strong for me to try to walk with Petey.

An Evening of Hilarity

I played softball this evening with Matt, Karen, and my father. It was the most fun I have had in a long time. None of us can pitch. None of us can hit (except my father). I was first to bat. I was also the second and third and fourth to bat, because I was the only one on my team. I hit the ball and ran to first. I ran back to home. I hit the ball and ran to first again, which this time was really second since I'd already been there. I ran back and hit the ball again, running to first, or now, third. I ran back and hit the ball again. This time Karen caught it, and I was out. Then my dad was up. He bats right-handed. I threw all the balls to his left. He decided to just pitch to himself. He's an excellent hitter. Matt, Karen, and I were running all over the place. We finally ran out of daylight. Unfortunately there was no one there to get any pictures of this. We decided we needed to mow my parents lower field into a baseball diamond and do it again.

Petey

we got a new dog today. he's a really cute beagle that was abandoned. he's underfed and missing a couple of patches of hair, but that will heal. the thing is, he's terrorizing the dog we already have, Murray Mermelmann. poor Murray. Petey won't even let him play with his own toys. I'm not sure what to do. I asked Blair if we did the right thing taking Petey in, and he said yes, so I guess things will work themselves out.

Good grief

do you ever have a day where everything is your fault for some reason or another, and you regret every decision you've ever made? yesterday was one of those days and it has carried over into today. i haven't personally done anything, but others don't so much see it that way. so, someone remind me why life isn't easy.

Very Tired

I got back home last night from a long, but VERY good, vacation. We spent three days in Charleston and then camped on the beach for a week. Charleston was amazing, as usual. It was Blair's first time to see the city, and he absolutely fell in love with it. We were there during the Piccolo-Spoletto Festival and there was just so much to see. We had fabulous weather for the entire trip, which was good since we walked or rode bikes everywhere.

I'll write more later...I'm hungry!
