Finished Projects and Works in Progress

I finished these two fun items yesterday. I borrowed the idea from a fellow crafting blogger, and I made two...one for each of the special ladies in my life. Mama and Mama-in-Law. These hold stationary and writing goodies.





This is my current WIP (work in progress). It's the February Lady Sweater - a grown-up version of a baby sweater. I can't wait to keep working on it. The yarn I chose has a bounce to it that will work really well with the garter stitch and gull lace pattern that is to follow.



Other than that, not much is going on here. Blair got a graduate assistant position on campus, so now I'm the only one left looking for a job. Well, right now, waiting to hear back from the one I applied for...

Meine Blog...auf Deutsch!

Sehr gut, ja oder nein? Ich habe mein Deutsch vergessen. Das ist nicht sehr gut. Really, people, it is, because I really do enjoy German. It's a lot of fun to speak once you get the hang of it, and some of the ways they have of describing things are just flat out crazy. I'm thinking of getting back into it, so to speak. I've started reading the first Harry Potter book in German again...perhaps that will help.

Beach Day

Blair and I moseyed on down to the beach for the first time today since we've been here. We went to Beaufort first, which is a really nice little town. There are several historic places to see there and quite a few cute little shops. From there, we made the ten minute drive to Atlantic City Beach. It is such a pretty beach. Perfect sand, life guards, and lots of people. We're both a little pink, but we had a good time.

Blair and I were busy today. He installed 3 ceiling fans, and we cooked dinner together. Here's what we had:

The Oddities of my Dogs

Somehow, this object keeps winding up wrapped around Petey like a ribbon. Since Meemom and Pop will be the only two people who recognize this object, I will explain. My dad had an old hat that he gave to Murray to use as a toy. The brim is the only portion of this hat left. I have no idea how it keeps getting here:

Irrational Fears

I was laying in bed last night wondering why I was unable to sleep, when I realized it was because I had my back to the door. Silly, right? Wait until you hear why that is such a big deal.

When I was six, my dad built a doll house for me as a Christmas gift. Now, this wasn't any old doll house. This doll house was a 5 foot tall, 6 foot wide log cabin doll house. It was (and is) amazing. Except at night when it absolutely terrified me. I spent every night as a child, and quite frankly teenager, terrified that someone was hiding behind it. I would lay awake for hours every night scared to death that someone was going to sneak out from behind it and attack me. In middle school I kept my tennis racket by the door of my bedroom so that when we got home from church late at night I could grab it and check behind the doll house (this fear, by the way, extended itself to the shower curtain, as well). Early on in the history of the doll house I decided it would be best to sleep facing towards it. That way if anyone did come out from behind it I would see them immediately. Even if that side of my body had grown numb, I would not roll over. Years after I had finished playing with dolls the doll house became a book case. At this point it was moved closer to the wall, and I put my tennis racket into semi-retirement, but my fear and paranoia persisted. Even now as I approach the ripe old age of 24, the dark still scares me. I suppose it has something to do with the unknown, the hidden. Even now that I don't sleep alone (my 6'4" husband and two dogs take up alot of space and do more than their fair share of snoring) I still have trouble sleeping at night. Apparently life-long habits are hard to break...

The Job Hunt Begins

This afternoon I started looking for jobs. I decided I needed to since I spent 30 minutes crying over a torn up welcome mat (that I wound up super-gluing back together). I have no phone charger, so I took the phone book and sat out in the car with the phone plugged in out there. I started calling local daycares to see if any of them were accepting applications. I called three and none were. I could feel the tears starting to rise. I closed the phone book and started to get out of the car. After realizing the door wouldn't open because it was locked, I decided to try one more place. I found another center located in my town, and called. They were taking applications!! I told them I would be out later that afternoon to fill out a form. I put the address into Molly (my GPS unit) and took off. When Molly said I had arrived at my destination I looked to see where I was. I was at the Greenville Montessori School. Not where I wanted to be. I noticed two cars out front so I went in to see if they could help me get where I was supposed to be. I walked in and two ladies rose, smiling, to greet me. I told them my situation, and they were very helpful. I told them I was very new to town and didn't know my way around yet. They asked what brought me here, and I told them that Blair and I were going to work on our Master's Degrees. When I mentioned that I wanted to do Elementary Ed, they told me there was an opening for a part-time Educational Assistant at the school in the fall. They gave me the phone number and I left for the daycare. After filling out the application and listening to the kids screaming and crying, I left there. On the way home, I called the Montessori school. They were thrilled that I had called back. They gave me the application information that I needed. When I called the employment agency, I was met with more kindness and enthusiasm. The lady I spoke with told me that there had been alot of interest in the job, but to apply anyway. So I came home and applied. The administrators at the school are getting ready to go on vacation, but they told me they would get in touch with me as soon as they could. I'm really looking forward to hearing back from them!


**My camera cord is still in Tennessee, so it will be a few days until I can post any pictures...oops!

Internet finally!

We now have internet!! As soon as I find my camera cord I will post some pictures of the new place. I've gotten alot of work done on it this week, but I'm still only about half-way finished.

For those of you who don't know, there's a forest fire burning like crazy in this area of the state, and yesterday the smoke wasn't too bad, but it's back today.

I went to a local church Sunday and met a couple of people, which was good, because I'm pretty tired of being by myself here.

Hopefully I will be able to post some photos tonight. We'll see...

Two More Days

Blair and I have two days left in Martin before we depart for our grand adventure. We're getting very excited (and a little nervous). I absolutely fell in love with the city when we were there last week, and I can't wait to see the rest of it. Be patient with the lack of posts until we get internet in our new place (I'm not sure when that will be). Just keep checking until I get to post a new one!!
